I had a delicious meal at Goodson's. My husband and I enjoy giving our business to locally owned spots and Goodson's looked like a good choice. We loved the food. We both had the sunshine salad with a side of their famous yeast rolls. The gravy that came with the rolls was perfect. The service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be back to try the chicken fried steak.
This place is a true Texas classic! Been around for decades and you can taste the tradition in every bite. The chicken fried steak and fried fish are both outstanding — huge portions, great flavor, and real Southern comfort food. Service is warm and friendly, and the whole place has that cozy, down-home feel. If you want authentic Texas comfort food, this is the spot.
We were at a conference in Tomball and were looking for a place to eat. Someone had recommended Goodson’s cafe to us. What a great place to relax and unwind after a long drive. Our friends had the catfish and my wife and I had both had salads. Very nice atmosphere. The gal that was our waitress gave us amazing service.
Wow the mixed basket is mind blowing for 6.99. …. Service nice and ok not super healthy but so comforting - biscuits and gravey …. Yummy …. Park in the back!!!!
We hadn’t been here in a while, but we are never disappointed. Their chicken fried steak is so flavorful. I’ve been here when the rolls melt in your mouth-good! This trip nothing was left on our plates! Of course we will be back!
Food is delicious 😋 😍 definitely would come back to eat here. I drove a hour away to come and eat here. Someone recommended it and they were right. Delicious. Honestly everything looked good that the people was ordering. Fresh rolls come out with butter.
Goodson's Cafe did not disappoint. They advertise the best chicken fried steak and Texas and they have a believer in me. The portions are large but they don't sacrifice taste or quality. The meat was very tender and cooked perfectly. The sides are quite as well. For as good as the food is, the service is better. My waiter was very attentive and made sure I was taken care of quickly. The other waiters and waitresses also spoke when they would come by. Definitely worth a stop.
The waitress was so sweet, attentive You could tell she had some class in her work. Everything was good. I loved the tea. The chicken fried steak is as big as the plate. Kept me full all day to be honest. Great atmosphere. Very busy, but accommodating, and fairly quiet given how many people were there. Will come again.
Made the drive all the way from the Clear Lake area to try the chicken fried steak for the first time, and boy was it worth it!! Let me tell ya that Goodson’s has the PERFECT ratio of meat to crust! No games - it’s exactly how it looks! It’s always a wonder on how the crust will be when ordering at a new restaurant. It’s such a bummer when you see a full plate, then go to cut in and it’s all a hollow crust with a tiny steak. That’s certainly NOT the case here! It’s also tender enough to cut the meat with a fork. Don’t forget to save room for pie or the banana pudding!
Glad I got the small chicken fried steak, it was more than enough. It was well prepared, and I enjoyed the sides. I'd return to scratch a home cooking itch.
